C DUNCAN - ARCHITECT EP

February 2016

C Duncan’s newest EP will be available as of the 19th February – and it’s a pretty accessible collection of tracks from whichever angle you’re approaching it; so if you’re approaching it from a difficult Valentine’s Day aftermath it might even get your spirits back up (maybe, we can’t promise anything).

A few have coined his style as being a mix of classical and dream pop- and to a certain extent this description fits the bill – but we’d be inclined to steer your focus away from the classical elements, and towards the barbershop layering of his rhythms and jaunty, yet ethereal twang of his melodies.

Songs such as ‘A Year Or So’ and ‘Garden’ certainly emphasise this: rattling drum strokes and rolling waves of vocal reverb which delve into a soupy, hypnotic texture. ‘Garden’ is also a track which you’ll find hiding amidst Duncan’s album ‘Architect’, but this time round it’s a little more frantic than before and with a heightened focus on the vocals.

It also features ‘The Age For Love (Is Not The Right Age For Me)’ – complete with tangled trails of soft, knotted guitar. Occasionally, I like to imagine that he was inspired and influenced by Joe Dolce’s effortless on-stage charm and schoolboy chatter. However, this definitely isn’t the case.

Anyway, we don’t want to walk you through the whole EP, but once we get to ‘Pearly Dewdrop’s Drops’ we will have, so there you go. By far the most prominent track on the EP- and a lot like ‘Say’ from his previous album; it’ll probably be the one you get into first. Be sure to check this out for a touch of the otherworldly and a tang of easy-listening.
