FOALS - WHAT WENT DOWN
June 2015

Featuring a much harsher and cumbersome tone than we’re used to from these guys, ‘What Went Down’ is the suggestive title track for Foals’ new album. We all know Foals to be kings of the gradual accumulation of sound, and ‘What Went Down’, is yet another feat of slow, intense, melodic build-up (but this time with a little less melody and with texturing that is cool as diiiiicks).
What’s that we hear you cry? : ‘isn’t the title a little contrary considering the epic crescendos that are Foal’s staple?!’ No, no, no, you are taking this far too literally ... Perhaps there could be an undertone of allusion to the band’s descent into a much more raucous and untamed style of music ... perhaps not.
In any case, as singer, Philippakis posed, this is by far one of the most ‘savage and animalistic’ songs they’ve done. So get on board.
