GLASS ANIMALS - BLACK MAMBO
February 2015
If you like Alt-J, and you like butter, and you really like the idea of Alt-J smothered in butter, then you’ll love Glass Animals.
The band has just released an appropriately hypnotic and sinister video for their single ‘Black Mambo’ - with footage that blends almost immaculately with the rest of the album’s imagery, director, David Helman, seems to have perfectly adapted his concept to suit the caramel tones of this dark jungle pop group.
Prepare for shots of deep, deciduous rainforests; vast, humid lagoons; and scales: lots and lots of scales - and I don’t mean the musical kind (although invariably they are present too).
The dense and humid location of the video feels like an essential medium for translating the heavier and darker ‘theme of deception’ which Helman was adamant to convey- but let’s not get bogged down with all this over-analysing: GIVE IT A LISTEN NOW.
