THE CADBURY SISTERS - YOU CHOOSE
May 2015

If Cadbury’s Chocolate ever needed to have a traditional folk sound (and it almost definitely didn’t, but for the love of chocolate, hear me out), then allow me to introduce you to it in the form of alternative pop-trio, The Cadbury Sisters. Named so because of their chocolately lineage, and this writer suspects: their soft, silky tones that melt in the ears, The Cadbury Sisters have been making a name for themselves on the festival scene these past few summers and if this track is anything to go by, then we’re not surprised as to why.
The contemporary folk influences of this song become apparent almost immediately: the soft, haunting tones of the three-part harmonies and the melancholy hum of a steel-stringed guitar adds that wistful, nostalgic edge reminiscent of the Swedish folk sisters, First Aid Kit. Though, a little less lugubrious perhaps and with that heartening resonance which The Corrs might conjure up (that’s right, we still remember them).
Jessica, Mary and Lucy Cadbury may well be descendants of the renowned chocolate empire, but by no means are The Cadbury Sisters a product of this monopoly. The girls appear to have already made their mark on the folk music scene and are about to embark on a UK headline tour, so catch them while you can! (Bristol, June 17th at The Lantern, in case you were wondering).
