Bangkok Pt.2

That second day waking up in Southeast Asia, I recall feeling particularly overwhelmed by the sights and smells of the city - not to mention that we slept in until around midday and awoke to the bustling pace and incomprehensible noises of Bangkok. Still, as anyone will tell you, Bangkok is most often a destination that marks the start or end (or both) of your journey, and you quickly fall into pace with those like-minded travellers wandering about the streets.

We spent the morning in a daze, idly navigating the little alleys and busy roads as we picked up breakfast-fodder: a fresh pineapple smoothie, iced coffee and a couple of pad thais. The weather was overcast and muggy for the first few days of our trip, and I was still working out how to take a decent picture with so much happening in one scene. The city was vast and we quickly got tired and frustrated wondering aimlessly with no real plan.
Luckily, it wasn't very long before we'd been offered a tuk-tuk to drive us around and see the sights, and it wasn't much longer after that that we realised we were being conned into going on a wild-goose chase for 'special suits' and coach trips...
Still, it was actually really nice to get the breeze of the tuk-tuk journey, even if it meant the occasional bit of feigned interest in a sombre-looking tailored suit store followed by a quick escape after our polite declines were met by the stony glares of shop assistants. It might not have been the most inspiring experience of Bangkok, but we did catch a few temples with the aid of our surprisingly-well informed driver. Plus, later that night we were still able to make the most of our last evening in the city drinking at a mobile cocktail bar just off Khao San road with some fellow travellers - one of which I'd meet again later.
